Received his MSW degree from Boston University School of Social Work and has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 16 years. SOCIAL SCIENCES: Meet the Professionals engage students in career conversations with professionals doing interesting work.

Jill Cuyler, Workforce Analyst for Oregon Employment Department. has experience as an appellate lawyer in Oregon and federal appellate courts. Derrick serves as the initial point of contact for worldwide inbound investment inquiries, works closely with Business Oregon’s foreign trade and investment representatives in Greater China, Japan, Korea, and the European Union to attract foreign direct investment into Oregon, and helps coordinate the responses of Business Oregon’s Clean Technology/Renewable Energy Team to inbound investment opportunities. He also coordinates the work of Team Oregon, a coalition of Business Oregon marketing Oregon's advantages as a location for renewable energy manufacturing.

Troy received his master's in business administration from Willamette University and has a double bachelor of science in human resources management and business management from Portland State University.Betty Merritt, MSW, Program Coordinator for WA County Commission on Children and Families. Betty Merritt received her master's in social work administration from the University of Minnesota and has worked in direct practice in mental health and substance abuse, in management of community-based prevention programs for youth and national parent support and education programming.

Dawn Richelme, Mental Health Counselor for WA County Sheriff's Office, Jail Division. Dawn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Dawn also worked overseas in the Dominican Republic as a Community Health Program Manager prior to her work in Oregon.

The recently launched Campaign for Social Science aims to remedy just the situation that Cohen so eloquently describes. At the launch he described himself as a "long time consumer of British social science" who attends meetings most days "where social science evidence is used". Yet, apart from people actually educated in the subject, how many of us are able to say what social science is?

The blandness of the name "social science" belies its topicality – psychology, economics, international relations, education, politics, anthropology, urban planning, linguistics, business studies, law, geography, communications and more – all will be affected by the shrinking of public funds available for teaching and research. The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District, along with the John F. Kennedy High School Independent Research program, is proud to announce that Jonathan Aaron Goldman has been named a finalist in the prestigious Intel Student Talent Search.

Goldman conducted his social science research in the district research lab, under the direction of John F. Kennedy High School Advanced Placement (AP) Psychology Teacher Raymond Tesar. Goldman’s research project is titled Evidence for Link Between Native Reading Language and Internal/External Search Processes.

“Jon being named an Intel Science Talent Search finalist is a result of his many months of hard work and dedication to the field of behavioral science,” explained Tesar. Goldman has taken on a challenging program throughout his high school career. Outside of school, he finds time to work at a community supported agricultural garden at the Old Bethpage Restoration Village.

“Jonathan has invested an amazing amount of time and energy into his project,” said Chairperson of Science, Research and Technology Joyce Thornton Barry. While in Washington, the 40 finalists display and present their research to the public at the prestigious National Academy of Sciences. Here, finalists explain their research to thousands of visitors, many of whom are important figures in the government and science communities, promoting independent, inquiry-based science research.

The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel International Science and Engineering Fair) is the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition. Alumni of STS have made extraordinary contributions to science and hold more than 100 of the world’s most coveted science and math honors, including seven Nobel Prizes and four National Medals of Science.
